If your medical screening for symptoms of severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) meets the criteria, you may be accepted as a trial patient for the ROX Medical Anastomotic Coupler. If you decide to participate, you will be randomized to either the study procedure group, or standard of care group (control group). Having two groups will assist in determining the benefits of the ROX Medical Anastomotic Coupler and its effectiveness in treating COPD symptoms.

Regardless of which group you are randomized to, the procedure will be scheduled appropriately within the study guidelines. The study will take up to 18 months to complete. Trial patients are required to visit their local study center up to eight times during this follow-up period for examinations. The WALK Trial will be enrolling until Summer 2010. If you are not enrolled into the study procedure group, you may eligible to receive the procedure after one year in the clinical trial.
