Candidate Overview
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients who are interested in participating in the ROX Medical WALK™ Trial must meet certain requirements. These criteria are applied as patient safety considerations and to used to identify appropriate participants based on their COPD symptoms . In addition, these criteria help ensure that researchers will be able to accurately complete their course of study. There are three steps that assist in determining your candidacy for the trial.
Steps to Candidacy
Step 1: Pre-Screening Questionnaire
To learn if your COPD symptoms qualify you to participate in the trial, please complete the online questionnaire. Please note that completing the questionnaire does not obligate you to participate in the trial, nor does it guarantee that you will be selected to participate. Complete the questionnaire.
Pre-Screening Questions
1. Have you been diagnosed with Stage III or Stage IV Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?
2. Are you at least 18 years of age?Pre-Screening Questions ?
3. Have you completed a pulmonary rehabilitation program within the last 12 months or, alternatively, would you be willing to complete a program?
4. Have you had more than one COPD Exacerbation that required hospitalization within the last 12 months?
5. Have you been prescribed supplemental oxygen by your physician?
6. Is your FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second) between 15% - 50% of predicted volume?
Step 2: Trial Site Contact
If your answers to the pre-screening questionnaire indicate that you may be a candidate for this trial a study coordinator will communicate with you to provide additional information about the trial and answer any questions you may have. If you are deemed an appropriate candidate and decide to proceed further, you will also be asked to sign an Informed Consent document, which is your agreement to participate in the trial. You can contact a site that is participating in the clinical trial by consulting the clinicaltrials.gov website to review the list of clinical sites in the U.S and finding the one nearest you.
Step 3: Screening Tests
Once you have given your consent, a series of screening tests will help determine if you are physically eligible to be enrolled in the trial. Medical evaluations will be conducted by a doctor or clinician at the hospital trial site nearest you. Examinations include:
• Medical History
• Vital Signs
• Physical Examination
• CT Scan
• EKG
• Doppler Ultrasound
• Echocardiography
• Right Heart Catheterization
• Laboratory Tests
• Pulmonary Function Tests
• Walking Test
